Over the past two decades, ads, billboards, commercials, and all forms of marketing and advertising has made sex appeal its number one priority. Sex appeal is used to be effective in grabbing the consumer's attention. Recent polls show that 17% percent of the five prime time television stations use some type of sex appeal on thier network. Sex on televison is becoming more and more common. Along with sex appeal, even more effective is celebrity sex appeal. A few years ago a controversial commercial involving then Eagles star wide-out, now Cowboys star reciever Terrel Owens with Desperate Housewive's star Nicolette Sheridan in a "locker room" scene where she drops her towel and runs and hugs T.O.; the combination of celebrity and sex are a vital part of 20th century advertising. Some of the top advertisers of sex appeal are Calvin Klein, Axt Body Wash, Absolute Vodka Pepsi-Cola, and Candie's just to name a few. A perfect example of sex appeal in advertising is in the various types of popular magazines. Most of the popular magazines in bookstores, malls, and even supermarkets are dripping with some type of sexual images or phrases. Sex proves to be a solid seller and the consumer seems to take the bate. I think ads and advertisers are only going to get bolder and take the sex appeal to a higher level.
